Were any medals awarded to those who served on convoy duties to Russia of old during WW2? I've been looking into my family history during WW2, and I'm wondering if any medals were awarded, and if so, why can I not find any trace of them, is there some organisation I can contact Govt or military to clarify the matter? Thanks.
Medals were awarded to seamen and merchant mariners on convoy duties in the Arctic on the Russian convoy run. Captain Sherbrooke won the VC in December 1942 in the Barents Sea. There were campaign medals, service medals and the occasional bravery medals. I suggest you contact the Naval Office or the Ministry of Defence as either would have "service records" of individuals and what awards they are entitled to.
